Learn More About Us
Cremation Air offers a seamless service for scattering cremated remains over U.S. Coastal Waters. We built our process to allow funeral directors to provide a dignified and unique memorial service for the families they serve with no added burden. We currently operate from Gulf waters, along the Atlantic Coast, and over The Great Lakes. We plan to expand to the Pacific Coast soon! Frequently Asked Questions
Do we need 100% of the ashes to perform scattering services?
No, we only need a portion of your loved one’s ashes to perform our scattering services. This is what makes our service so unique. When a deceased individual has pre-planned cremation, or a family decides on cremation for their loved one, there are so many options to celebrate their life story. Scattering services with Cremation Air, can be just another chapter of their journey. We encourage directors to discuss all options with families and we hope they choose multiple options of remembrance for their loved one. We are an “and” to the process, not necessarily the end.
Can families attend our scattering services?
No, families cannot attend or be present on our plane during scattering services. Only our pilot and trained personnel who scatter the ashes will be on our flights. Families will be updated throughout our CAIR Process of the scattering date. All are more than welcome to gather on the coast of the selected destination the day of the scattering.
How do families select their scattering location?
During the ordering process, families will sit with the funeral director and have the choice of their deceased scattering location. A menu of available states with drop down selections for coastal towns within those states will be available for each families choosing. Some locations have military blocked airspace and we cannot fly in those zones.
Can Cremation Air scatter ashes over land?
No, we do not scatter over land. Our operation only scatters over U.S. Coastal waters, 3 nautical miles offshore, at a minimum height of 3,000 ft.
Does Cremation Air work directly with families or the general public?
No, we are only contracted to do business with Funeral Directors or Funeral Homes. We can communicate with families on behalf of funeral directors, but we will never work directly with a family to secure a flight with Cremation Air. If you aren’t currently working with a funeral director, please send us an email and we can align you with the right one.
What type of plane are we flying for perform our scattering services?
We fly a 2013 Beechcraft Bonanza G-36, single-engine aircraft renowned for its performance, advanced avionics, and comfort.
Does Cremation Air scatter pet ashes?
No, we currently do not scatter pet ashes as a part of our services.
How long will it take Cremation Air to perform scattering services after an order has been placed?
It is our goal to perform all scattering services within 30 days of ash/cremains received. The only time this may not occur is if there is a weather event happening the same day as the scheduled service.
When and how will families receive their Tribute Video and Scattering Certificate?
Families will receive their Video Tribute and Scattering Certificate within 2-weeks of the scattering service date. All items will be delivered via email in a digital link.
Does Cremation Air offer families any additional ways to memorialize their loved ones?
Not yet, but pretty soon! We are in the process of creating an online web store with after scattering options of memorialization and remembrance. Be on the look-out for announcements regarding our store in the near future.
